Berceuse
This Berceuse is the opening movement of the 2024 Suite for Piano. It evokes the character of a traditional berceuse, but with some modern stylistic applications including 7/8 time and a 12-tone harmonic scheme.
Sonatina for Clarinet and Harp
This 1978 work was written for and is dedicated to clarinetist Jame Hill who first performed it with harpist Laurel McConkey. The work explores all ranges of the clarinet and highlights both the mellow and brilliant aspects of the harp./p>
Seven Variations for Clarinet, Viola, and Piano
Written in 1977 as a commission by a group local to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, this early work explores the tone and character of the constituent instruments and both highlights their individual features and melds them as a coordinated ensemble.
Four Moments for Winds and Strings
This work was written for conductor Jonathan Kleid and premiered at the University of North Texas. The instrumentation of “double quintet” provides the sound source of a “mini orchestra” and provides a rich palette from which the score is crafted.
Seven Preludes for Dinner
The title of this work also describes the terms of the commission by clarinetist Maria Palacios. (The dinner was scrumptious.)
Essay for Orchestra
This 1982 work was commissioned by the North Texas Youth Symphony in Denton, Texas, conducted by David Saunders. It has recently been revised and extended and re-scored for a more traditional orchestra makeup (piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 clarinets, 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba, Timpani, percussion, harp, piano, and strings.)
Sinfonietta
Sinfonietta won the Sigma Alpha Iota, Denton Alumnae Chapter, Orchestral Composition Competition. It was premiered on April 23, 1979, by the North Texas State University (now, University of North Texas) Chamber Orchestra under the Direction of Anshel Brusilow. Instrumentation includes Flutes 1&2 (2 doubling piccolo), Oboes 1&2 (2 doubling english horn), 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 french horns, 2 trumpets, 2 trombones, timpani, percussion, harp, and strings. It is presented here with minor revisions as well as an extended coda section drawn from the opening material.
